APA-Ndjamena (Chad) – The candidate put forward is Adoum Younousmi, Chad’s former Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure under the late President Idriss Deby Itno.
After withdrawing its candidate in 2020, Chad is once again a candidate for the position of Director General of the Agency for Safety and Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA). The announcement was made by the Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation and National Meteorology, Fatime Goukouni Weddeye, at a press briefing on
Monday 12 February 2024.
Ndjamena’s candidate is Adoum Younousmi, the country’s former Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure under the late President Idriss Deby Itno. According to the Minister for Civil Aviation, Chad’s candidate has acquired in-depth expertise in the field of infrastructure and transport.
“The candidacy of this former minister is of particular importance, as it offers ASECNA the opportunity to benefit from a leader with a strategic vision and an in-depth understanding of the specific needs of Member States in terms of civil aviation and airport infrastructure development,” she said.
According to her, in addition to his in-depth knowledge of the infrastructure and transport sector, the candidate, Adoum Younousmi, also has international experience and a proven ability to work in multicultural and multilingual environments, which could strengthen ASECNA’s position on the regional and international scene.
In a related development, the current Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority (ADAC), Mahamat Awaré Neissa, has resigned from his post. He cited “unacceptable working conditions” as the reason for his resignation. Mahamat Awaré Neissa had expressed his wish to head ASECNA in 2020, before seeing his candidacy withdrawn by Chad in favour of Cameroon’s candidate.
