APA-Ndjamena (Chad) The citizen platform wants priority to be given to resolving the human rights violations that occurred during the demonstrations on 20 October 2022.
Twenty-four hours after the official signing of an agreement in principle between the Chadian government and the ‘Les Transformateurs’ party in Kinshasa, a number of reactions have been recorded. In a press release issued on Wednesday 1 November, the ‘Coordination des Actions Citoyennes Wakit Tamma’ rejected the agreement, which provides for the return of all those exiled following the events of 20 October 2022.
According to the press release, the coordination of this platform has not given a mandate to any of the parties to this agreement. It also points out that the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) facilitator for the transition in Chad, Congolese President Felix Tshishekedi, has been challenged by the nation’s driving forces for his “partiality.”
For this citizen platform, priority must also be given to resolving human rights violations and restrictions on fundamental freedoms during the events of 20 October 2022. It is therefore calling for “a global compromise between all the players to correct the errors of the current political process and allow fair justice for the victims of all the crimes suffered by the civilian population”.
Transitional President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno praised the efforts of President Felix Tshishekedi that led to the signing of this agreement. He once again called on exiles, who were still skeptical, to join the dialogue and reconciliation process launched by the transitional authorities.
