The Government of Chad, in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), has launched an emergency project to support Sudanese refugees and host communities in the face of the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
The project, launched by Minister Delegate for Economy and Planning Fatima Haram Acyl in Abeche, Ouaddai province, will be implemented in the provinces of Ouaddai, Sila, and Wadi Fira, which have seen a significant influx of over 910,000 Sudanese refugees and returnees since the conflict began.
The project aims to address the urgent humanitarian needs of the displaced population and support host communities in coping with the influx. It will focus on strengthening the capacity of government agencies to respond effectively to the crisis while also enhancing the socio-economic resilience of both refugees and host communities.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Fatimé Boukar Kossei, emphasized the importance of this project in providing support to the most vulnerable and ensuring a better future for those affected by the conflict.
This initiative reflects Chad’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and supporting refugees in their time of need. By addressing the immediate needs of the displaced population and strengthening the resilience of host communities, the project aims to contribute to a more stable and sustainable future for all.
