APA – N’Djamena (Chad) The Chadian army generals retired include former comrades-in-arms of late presidents Hissein Habré and Idriss Déby Itno.
In a decree signed on 13 June, the transitional president and supreme commander of the armed forces retired several generals from the Chadian army. There are 47 general officers affected by this measure.
They are corps, division and brigade generals. This is in accordance with the provisions of decree 002 of 13 January 2022 on the general status of military personnel.
Among the most prominent are Moussa Haroun Tirgo and Nadjita Beassoumal Yonhonbel, both former comrades-in-arms of the late President Idriss Déby Itno, Gouara Lassou, former comrades-in-arms of the late President Hissein Habré, Idriss Dokony Adiker, former Minister of Public Security, and Ngarboudjim Medeur Jacob, several times governor under the rule of Idriss Déby Itno.
Idriss Déby Itno, who led a coup against Habré in 1990, was killed in April 2021 during an army counter-offensive against rebels from the Chadian Front for Change and Concord (FACT).
The Chadian army has around 500 generals, more than Nigeria, France and the United States. Since 2011, no general has retired because of the freeze. Officially, this is to prevent them from falling into insecurity and ending up in rebellion. A Chadian general earns around 2 million CFA francs. In addition, he benefits from state support (free accommodation, water, electricity, etc.).
