Chad has strongly denied rumours of terrorist infiltration in the capital after a Facebook page, Tchadone, owned by Chadian activists, reported the possible entry of armed men into Ndjamena.
In a statement published on November 3, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Government spokesperson, Abdraman Koulamallah, sought to reassure the population and the international community about national security.
In response to alarming information circulating on social media, the authorities categorically denied allegations of infiltration.
The day before, on November 2, Tchadone had posted a message warning of an alleged infiltration in Ndjamena, citing “information from the intelligence services” confirming the arrival of a “small group of attackers” in the capital. The publication also mentioned skirmishes that occurred in Dandi, near Ndjamena and recommended that the population be vigilant.
In its press statement received by APA, the government described the information as “fabricated, unfounded and disseminated by individuals seeking to sow fear and confusion”. The authorities affirmed that the security situation remains under control and that no specific threats have been detected.
The Chadian defense and security forces at present proactively maintain their surveillance and security operations, particularly in the highly strategic Lake Chad region. The government reiterated its commitment to guaranteeing the peace and security of citizens and called on the population to be vigilant in the face of false information.
