The 73-year-old opposition leader is working hard to stand in the way of Idriss Déby Itno who is seeking a 6th presidential term on April 11.
Knock the Marshal of Chad off his perch. This is the crazy dream of Saleh Kebzabo. In power for 31 years, Idriss Déby Ino will finally face six opponents after several withdrawals. These are Romadoungar Nialbé Félix, Brice Mbaimon, Pahimi Padacket Albert, Lydie Beassemda, Yombombé Théophile and Alladoum Baltazar.
An unsuccessful candidate four times, Saleh Kebzabo pull himself out of the race for the Pink Palace following the tragic events of February 28, 2021. However, the leader of the National Union for Democracy and Renewal (UNDR) does not give up: “Today, I will make a live broadcast on my page to launch a call for a peaceful march on Saturday, March 27 and give some practical indications. With courage and determination, the struggle continues,” he said on Twitter.
More than ever, Mr. Kebzabo wants to assume his responsibilities because “in the situation that (Chad) is going through at the moment, the democratic opposition needs a guide to bring together and cross the path of the future.
The historical opponent of Idriss Déby is convinced that the latter “will never accept to leave power if he is not forced to do so. This is why he plans to make Chad ungovernable by amplifying “the tensions that are already underway in the country.”
And for the presidential election scheduled in seventeen days, his objective is to purely and simply prevent it from being held. “We remain mobilised on our objective of making 2021 a year of change. It is possible with the support of all the children of Chad who are victims of Déby’s oppression,” the former journalist explained.
The opponent Yaya Dillo has also vowed to do everything possible to ensure that the election is not held on the due date. On Saturday March 20, 2021, a peaceful march by the opposition was dispersed by the police.
Against all odds, the incumbent president continued his electoral campaign launched on 13 March. Marshal Idriss Déby displayed “serenity and confidence” before the vote, which he said will result in “a victory in the first round.”
At the end of his meeting with the opponent Succès Masra, the Chadian head of state said that “the higher interest of the nation must transcend all other considerations.”
