The winner of the 8th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled for February 1-28, 2025, will receive a bonus of $3.5 million, or more than 2 billion CFA francs, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said.
The governing body of African football announced on Tuesday a significant increase in the financial reward for the winner of the next CHAN, to $3.5 million, which represents “a 75 percent increase”.
It also revealed that the overall prize pool for the tournament, the2025 edition of which is co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, will amount to $10.4 million, an increase of 32%.
A competition reserved for players playing in domestic leagues, CHAN is, according to CAF President Patrice Motsepe, a crucial springboard for “the development and growth of African-based football players and
contributes significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions.”
“This competition is part of our investment strategy in African football to make it attractive to football fans, viewers, sponsors, partners and other stakeholders in Africa and around the world,” added the South African head of CAF.
The draw for the tournament is scheduled for January 15, 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya, one of the three host countries along with Tanzania and Uganda.
Defending champions Senegal will participate in the competition after eliminating Liberia. In addition to the three host nations, 17 other teams have qualified.
A final ticket, reserved for the CECAFA zone (Central and East Africa), will be allocated to Burundi, Ethiopia or
South Sudan.
