APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) South African motorists woke up to reduced fuel prices on Wednesday, thanks to the government’s decision to pass the impact of lower May crude oil prices onto the domestic market.
According to the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, the price of both grades of petrol would decrease by 71 cents per litre.
This saw a litre of 95 Unleaded petrol going for R21.91 (about US$1.13) while that of 93 Unleaded petrol sold at R22.39.
Beginning Wednesday, the wholesale price of a litre of 50ppm diesel dropped by 80 cents and that for 500ppm diesel was reduced by 84 cents. Diesel retail prices vary at service stations across the country.
The retail price for paraffin decreased by 58 cents while the price of cooking gas rose by 75 cents, the ministry said.
It attributed the decline in most fuel prices to a “decreasing trend of crude oil prices on the world markets”.
