Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has said that the government is committed to ensuring that Nigerian children have a solid footing for the realization of their dreams.
In his address to mark this year’s Children’s Day on Monday, Tinubu told the children, who are the bearers of the nation’s torch into the future, on that “The President rejoices with parents, guardians, and families across the nation, and calls for a reinforcement of the family unit as a place where the sacred values of honesty, modesty, hard work and charity are passed down to the shining lights of tomorrow.”
In the statement released by the President’s media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu added that while he affirms that society is a reflection of each family unit as a collective, he urged the preservation of those principles that make us a wholesome, nurturing, and thriving nation.
“With increased investments in education, and the recent overhauling of the entire education system to provide both human and material resources for learning, as well as the efforts of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education to get the nation’s precious gifts off the streets, the President emphasizes that his administration will continue to expand access to qualitative education for all Nigerians,” he said.
The Nigerian leader reassured the nation of his commitment to ensuring a safe and secure ambience of learning for the children while improving the standard of education.
Meanwhile, some primary school pupils and secondary school students have urged President Tinubu to pay more attention to education.
The students told journalists on the sidelines of the Children’s Day celebration held at the National Museum of Unity in Ibadan on Monday that their education was paramount.
The students also urged the Nigerian Government to provide adequate teaching equipment in a conducive environment for the students. .
“Our teachers need training to be able to train us well. Also, the cost of living is very high; Daily, I hear my mother complaining about the amount she spends to purchase things.
“Too many roads are bad in Nigeria and, hereby, causing accidents; when we have good roads, the accidents will reduce,” the students said.
Children’s Day is commemorated in Nigeria on May 27, every year.
