The agreement was formalised on Friday in the Mozambican capital by the country´s minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Pacheco and the extraordinary and the Chinese Ambassador, Su Jian.
‘The government of China will donate 5,700 tons of rice to strengthen food security programs and provide assistance to victims of natural disasters in the country’ read a statement by the Foreign Ministry to APA on Friday.
The donation is the result of the partnerships established in the framework of the visit of President Filipe Nyusi, to China in the context of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing in September 2018.
In recent months, Mozambique has been struggling with drought affecting the entire southern region of the country, while the central and northern regions are battling floods.
In the years 2016 and 2017, China has made available 17,000 tons of rice to support victims of natural disasters in the country.
