To combat pollution in the Republic of Congo, the subsidiary of the French group Bolloré Transport & Logistics has launched a campaign called “The beach is not a dustbin.”
The campaign is organized by a group called Club for the Preservation of the Environment (CBVPE). It aims to raise awareness among tourists, shopkeepers and street vendors along the beaches of Pointe-Noire and Kouilou about the problem of waste management on the Congolese coast. It also aims to combat marine pollution by strengthening people’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Some 50 volunteers took part in the operation along the coast. “This initiative will last until December 30, 2023. We want to raise the environmental awareness of as many people as possible and encourage them to preserve our beaches,” CBVPE chairperson Yvernelh Nzaloussou explained.
In early September 2023, Congo Terminal supported CBVPE by providing clean-up kits (gloves, garbage bags, tools) to facilitate the launch of the campaign. Approximately 500 kilograms of plastic waste were collected during the launch.
