Congo says it has invested 250 billion CFA francs in equipment to revamp the port of Pointe-Noire.
On April 20, 2022, Congo Terminal, a subsidiary of Bollore Ports, commissioned two new RTG gantry cranes worth 3.8 million euros (2.5 billion CFA francs). This equipment was delivered in March 2022 and will enable the company to expand its fleet and now have 20 gantry cranes.
With a lifting capacity of 40 tons, this latest generation equipment will increase delivery rates and reduce the time required to process goods. They are also equipped with a real-time GPS positioning system, which optimizes the management of operations and ensures that imported containers are made available without delay.
“The commissioning of these two new RTG cranes will improve the productivity of our container terminal and support the development of our activities over the coming year. They also contribute to our ambition to make Pointe-Noire a transshipment hub and the main maritime gateway for Central Africa,” the CEO of Congo Terminal Anthony Samzun said.
“Beyond its operational performance, Congo Terminal is also committed to the Green Terminal labeling process that we created more than a year ago in order to reduce the carbon footprint of our activities. We are accompanied by Bureau Veritas which has validated the methodology and conducts audits every year to label our terminals based on the measures put in place to protect the environment,” said Olivier de Noray, General Manager of Ports and Terminals of Bollore Ports.
Congo Terminal is continuing its investment program to make Pointe-Noire the reference deepwater port and the platform of excellence in transshipment on the West African coast. The company has so far invested more than 250 billion FCFA (400 million euros) to modernize the container terminal both in terms of infrastructure and equipment.
