The financing agreement of this project, which will be implemented in the northern department of Sangha, was signed on Monday in Brazzaville by the Minister of Forest Economy, Rosalie Matondo and Suze Percy Filippini, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) representative in Congo.
“The objective of this project is to contribute to the conservation of wildlife, ecosystems and their services, to improve the living conditions and safety of communities (…), to reconcile food security and wildlife conservation issues through their sustainable and legal use,” project coordinator Joachim Kondi said.
For her part, Minister Rosalie Matondo welcomed the successful completion of this project, stressing that “with this project, Congo will make a substantial contribution to maintaining natural balances, by inviting the project’s stakeholders to develop synergies with existing initiatives.”
“This innovative and ambitious project can succeed if all stakeholders cooperate and collaborate”, said the European Head of Cooperation, adding that “conservation conditions and food and nutritional security are a real challenge at national and international level.”
