During her visit, Minister Joly signed the agreement with Wautabouna Ouattara, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Côte d’Ivoire, as part of the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) framework.
This signing marks a significant advancement in enhancing trade cooperation between the two nations. Minister Ouattara praised the bilateral efforts that have led to considerable financial and technical support for the Ivorian government.
The memorandum aims to outline the expectations of both parties and facilitate information exchange across various sectors, including infrastructure, transportation, energy, health, housing, education, agriculture, and green energy.
“As part of its National Development Plan (NDP, 2021-2025), Canada is providing support to our country with a contribution of 69 billion CFA francs, fulfilling its financing commitments as of the end of 2023,” revealed Minister Ouattara.
He also highlighted the alignment of perspectives between Abidjan and Ottawa on international matters and the challenges facing the Sahel and the Gulf of Guinea, such as the resurgence of terrorism, violent extremism, and maritime piracy.
These issues, he noted, pose significant threats to global peace and security. Minister Joly reinforced that Canada has no hidden agenda and is committed to supporting initiatives that benefit all parties involved.
Furthermore, Mélanie Joly expressed her approval of the recent establishment of the Canada-Côte d’Ivoire Chamber of Commerce, viewing it as a vital tool for enhancing and diversifying trade between the two countries.
