The National Agricultural Research Centre (CNRA) and the Cotton-Cashew Council (CCA) are collaborating on a project to boost cashew nut competitiveness.
A key goal is to develop and deploy high-performing cashew nut varieties with increased yield per hectare. This will involve utilizing technology developed through the Cashew Development Centres established nationwide.
The collaboration has already yielded results, including a cashew gene bank, a collection of cashew trees for study, and the aforementioned Cashew Development Centres.
The CCA has provided the CNRA with new vehicles to facilitate researchers’ work in deploying the improved cashew varieties.
Over 100,000 improved cashew seedlings were supplied to producers for the 2023 crop year, thanks to the establishment of 23 nurserymen.
Cashew Development Centres as a Bridge: These centers play a crucial role in connecting cashew growers with the latest research and improved varieties.
Overall, Côte d’Ivoire’s investment in research and improved cashew nut varieties demonstrates a commitment to sustainable growth in the industry. By focusing on higher yields and supporting researchers, the country aims to solidify its position as a leading producer of cashews.
