APA-Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) Jean-Marc Yace, the mayor of Cocody, a swanky district in the east of Abidjan, declares that he “feels capable of validly assuming” the presidency of the PDCI (opposition), and pledges his “resolve to promote and preserve the future” of the party.
Jean-Marc Yace explains: “Having carefully assessed the political context in which our party finds itself, and convinced of the need to work towards consolidating its achievements, it seemed appropriate to present my candidacy in order to continue the work begun by our illustrious predecessors.”
“As duty is a commitment that cannot be shirked, I come, most humbly, to announce my candidacy for the presidency of the PDCI-RDA, our great party,” Jean-Marc Yac said in a note.
He proudly proclaims that in tears and sorrow, the predecessors led the fight that led to the country’s independence and development, while praising their courage and resilience that helped keep the PDCI afloat, and make it an essential party for the future of Côte d’Ivoire.
“I am aware that this is a heavy legacy that we must assume with dignity, sincerity and a sense of sacrifice,” he admits, wishing to approach this turn of events with “humility and a high sense of responsibility,” and declares that he feels “fit and able” to assume the presidency of the party.
“If it is true that I have faith in my abilities, it is with you, by my side, that we will succeed in leading the PDCI along the path of peace, unity and success. This was always the wish of President Henri Konan Bedie, our historic leader, whom the Lord has kindly called to mind,” he says.
Addressing his militants, he concluded: “Dear brothers and sisters, I would like to recommend myself to your fervent prayers, and assure you of my deep determination to ensure that the future of the PDCI-RDA, our common good, shines forth and is preserved.”
Following the death of PDCI president, Henri Konan Bedie on August 1, 2023, the party decided at a political bureau meeting to hold an extraordinary congress on December 16, 2023 to elect a new president. Nominations are due from November 9 to 17, 2023.
