The event called “Abidjan Border Forum,” is initiated by the National Border Commission of Cote d’Ivoire (CNFCI) and will be held every two years.
The deputy chief of staff of the Ivorian Prime Minister, Alain Pohan, on Thursday, launched the first edition of the Abidjan Border Forum, which will be held on 26-28 October 2022.
According to Alain Pohan, this forum is a platform for “exchanges and interactions between national and international state and non-state border actors.”
It aims to address “issues raised by the governance of borders in our various countries,” Mr. Pohan said, adding that “it is imperative to have a pooling of our resources in both reflection and action.”
The Executive Secretary of the CNFCI, Diakalidia Konate, explained that this international forum, “one of the first in Africa,” which will be held every two years, aims to discuss issues related to border governance.
For Ms. Linda Leibiger, representative of the German ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire, financial partner of the event, the initiative comes within the framework of the implementation of the African Union Border Program (AUBP).
The forum should create a synergy of actions around the management of borders and establish a formal framework for consultation on their governance.
The theme of this first edition of the Abidjan Border Forum is “Borders and Collective Security.”
