APA-Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) International banker Tidjane Thiam was elected president of the ‘Parti Démocratique de Côte d’Ivoire’ (PDCI, opposition) in December 2023, succeeding Henri Konan Bedie, who died in Abidjan on August 1, 2023.
The resignation should enable Tidjane Thiam “to have the necessary availability to devote himself to his political commitments in Côte d’Ivoire.” It comes almost two years before the Ivorian presidential election of October 2025.
Elected President of the PDCI on December 22, 2023, at the end of an extraordinary elective congress in Yamoussoukro, Tidjane Thiam has submitted his resignation from his directorship to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kering, a luxury fashion group.
Tidjane Thiam had been an independent director of the Group since June 15, 2020, and Chairman of the Audit Committee.
The financial genius was also a member of Kering’s Remuneration Committee.
François-Henri Pinault, on behalf of the Board of Directors, thanked Tidjane Thiam for his involvement and contribution to the work of the Board, particularly as Chairman of the Audit Committee.
The Appointments and Governance Committee will consider his replacement and launch a succession process in the coming weeks.
As things stand, the composition of the committees remains unchanged, and will be reviewed at the time of a forthcoming appointment, according to a Group memo.
