Twelve people have died after contracting Covid-19 since Tuesday in South Africa, the , according to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) has announced.
In a statement on Thursday, NICD said the total death toll stood at 101,907 since the diseases was first detected in the country in March 2020.
In addition, some 397 new Covid-19 cases were recorded during over the past two days.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 3,998,863 since the pandemic started two years ago.
With 123 cases recorded, Gauteng province continued to have most infections in the country, followed by 94 in Western Cape, 53 in KwaZulu-Natal and 33 in the Eastern Cape, the agency said.
Ten people were admitted on Wednesday, reaching a total of 1,114 patients who are currently receiving hospital treatment for the pandemic, it added.
The country is currently home to 7,773 active cases, the NCID said.
