The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has recorded 1,213 new cases and 24 new deaths of COVID-19 in past 24 hours, official figures show on Wednesday.
The new cases were recorded in Benin (163), Burkina Faso (6), Cape Verde (20), Ivory Coast (146), Ghana (272), Guinea-Bissau (7), Liberia (2), Niger (7), Nigeria (346), Senegal (156), Sierra Leone (6) and Togo (82). The new deaths were recorded in Cape Verde (2), Ivory Coast (2), Ghana (9), Nigeria (6) and Senegal (5). West Africa now has 404,280 total cases, 5,253total deaths and 361,392 total recoveries.
Nigeria (159,252) has the highest total cases compared to Ghana (86,737), Senegal (36,195), Ivory Coast (35,477), Guinea (16,912), Cape Verde (15,826), Burkina Faso (12,187), Mali (8,613), Togo (7,680), Benin (6,501), Niger (4,835), Gambia (4,792), Sierra Leone (3,928), Guinea-Bissau (3,319) and Liberia (2,026).
Moreover, Nigeria (1,988) has the highest total deaths compared to Senegal (935), Ghana (656), Mali (358), Ivory Coast (206), Niger (177), Gambia (153), Cape Verde (154), Burkina Faso (143), Guinea (97), Togo (92), Liberia (85), Benin (81), Sierra Leone (79) and Guinea-Bissau (49).
Also, Nigeria (139,056) has the highest total recoveries compared to Ghana (81,299), Ivory Coast (32,882), Senegal (31,467), Guinea (15,237), Cape Verde (15,159), Burkina Faso (12,187), Mali (6,450), Togo (6,460), Niger (4,415), Benin (5,552), Gambia (4,203), Sierra Leone (2,769), Guinea-Bissau (2,686) and Liberia (1,898).
Africa has registered 4,014,769 total cases, 106,648 total deaths and 3,582,485 total recoveries while the world has recorded 118,375,903 total cases, 2,625,807 total deaths and 94,020,824 total recoveries.
