The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has recorded 1,347 new cases and 17 new deaths of COVID-19 in past 24 hours, official figures show on Wednesday.
The new cases were recorded in Burkina Faso (13), Cape Verde (38), Ivory Coast (267), Ghana (48), Guinea (106), Guinea (139), Guinea-Bissau (18), Mali (94), Niger (11), Nigeria (208), Senegal (214), Sierra Leone (4) and Togo (187). The new deaths were recorded in Cape Verde (3), Ghana (3), Guinea-Bissau (1), Mali (1), Niger (1), Nigeria (7) and Togo (1). West Africa now has 424,444 total cases, 5,564 total deaths and 388,066 total recoveries.
Nigeria (162,076) has the highest total cases compared to Ghana (89,893), Ivory Coast (40,868), Senegal (38,124), Guinea (19,084), Cape Verde (16,555), Burkina Faso (12,572), Mali (9,474), Togo (9,147), Benin (6,818), Gambia (5,303), Niger (4,939), Sierra Leone (3,953), Guinea-Bissau (3,586) and Liberia (2,042).
Moreover, Nigeria (2,031) has the highest total deaths compared to Senegal (1,023), Ghana (734), Mali (372), Ivory Coast (222), Niger (185), Gambia (161), Cape Verde (163), Burkina Faso (145), Guinea (113), Togo (105), Benin (90), Liberia (85), Sierra Leone (79) and Guinea-Bissau (56).
Also, Nigeria (148,530) has the highest total recoveries compared to Ghana (86,248), Ivory Coast (36,944), Senegal (35,508), Guinea (16,132), Cape Verde (15,845), Burkina Faso (12,240), Mali (6,661), Togo (7,341), Benin (5,552), Gambia (4,926), Niger (4,553), Guinea-Bissau (2,891), Sierra Leone (2,796) and Liberia (1,899).
Africa has registered 4,162,115 total cases, 110,815 total deaths and 3,720,781 total recoveries while the world has recorded 125,131,392 total cases, 2,750,896 total deaths and 101,044,273 total recoveries.
