The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has recorded 1,770 new cases and 33 new deaths of COVID-19 in past 24 hours, official figures show on Friday.
The new cases were recorded in Burkina Faso (23), Cape Verde (126), Ivory Coast (767), Ghana (201), Guinea (171), Guinea-Bissau (16), Mali (70), Niger (25), Nigeria (97), Senegal (99), Sierra Leone (9) and Togo (166). The new deaths were recorded in Cape Verde (1), Ivory Coast (5), Ghana (6), Guinea (3), Guinea-Bissau (5), Mali (3), Nigeria (5), Senegal (3) and Togo (2). West Africa now has 427,737 total cases, 5,604 total deaths and 392,776 total recoveries.
Nigeria (162,275) has the highest total cases compared to Ghana (90,094), Ivory Coast (42,074), Senegal (38,354), Guinea (19,403), Cape Verde (16,787), Burkina Faso (12,619), Mali (9,647), Togo (9,506), Benin (7,100), Gambia (5,303), Niger (4,964), Sierra Leone (3,962), Guinea-Bissau (3,607) and Liberia (2,042).
Moreover, Nigeria (2,036) has the highest total deaths compared to Senegal (1,031), Ghana (740), Mali (375), Ivory Coast (229), Niger (185), Gambia (161), Cape Verde (164), Burkina Faso (145), Guinea (116), Togo (107), Benin (90), Liberia (85), Sierra Leone (79) and Guinea-Bissau (61).
Also, Nigeria (149,882) has the highest total recoveries compared to Ghana (86,749), Ivory Coast (37,797), Senegal (36,107), Guinea (16,270), Cape Verde (15,936), Burkina Faso (12,294), Mali (6,718), Togo (7,466), Benin (6,452), Gambia (4,926), Niger (4,569), Guinea-Bissau (2,911), Sierra Leone (2,800) and Liberia (1,899).
Africa has registered 4,188,422 total cases, 111,541 total deaths and 3,768,705 total recoveries while the world has recorded 126,438,546 total cases, 2,772,008 total deaths and 101,992,211 total recoveries.
