Public authorities have called on citizens to restrict and limit their movements and to comply with “sanitary isolation” in their homes as a necessary preventive measure at this delicate stage to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the Ministries of Interior and Health announced in a joint statement.
To this end, movements to public places and squares will be conditioned by the absolute necessity for shopping, healthcare or duty work.
The local authorities and the public forces, National Security and the Royal Gendarmerie, will be responsible for guiding citizens to see through the implementation of these measures taken in the general interest of the Moroccan people.
In order to reassure citizens about the needs and necessities of daily life, the communiqué stressed that there is no need to worry about the level of supply in view of the precautions and measures taken by the relevant services to ensure the normal operation of all distribution channels for basic necessities, foodstuffs and hydrocarbons, as well as the necessary products available in the various premises and trading areas nationwide.
The joint communiqué noted the need to comply with the rules on hygiene and physical safety announced by the health authorities, calling on citizens who might present Covid-19 symptoms to go only to the dedicated health centres.
To date, 49 cases of contamination have been recorded in the Kingdom, including one minister. Two deaths have been recorded, while the first infected patient has fully recovered, according to the country’s health authorities.
Morocco has taken a series of measures to stem the spread of Covid-19, including the closure of Moroccan air and sea space to travellers, the cancellation of sporting, cultural and artistic gatherings and events, the establishment of a special fund for the management of the pandemic, the suspension of classes in schools and universities, the temporary closure of mosques and the suspension of hearings in the Kingdom’s various courts.
