Nigerians have been warned to brace up for a third wave of coronavirus infections in Africa’s most populous country, APA can report on Tuesday.
The country witnessed had witnessed two virulent waves of the disease towards the end of last year into 2021 and if indications by local health authorities are anything to go by, Nigeria is on the brink of a third round of infections.
According to the latest update, Nigeria currently has over 164,756 cases of the disease, 2,062 deaths and 192 recoveries since the first outbreak in March last year.
There are 7, 731 active cases of the disease.
1,912,628 samples have been tested for coronavirus as of Tuesday April 27, 2021.
In a warning, the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 (PSC) said Nigerians should be far from naive about the chance of another full blown rate of infection.
The PSC said it was not the time for complacency to tackle the rate of infection in the country, where the wearing of face masks and respecting other health safety regulations are not widely respected.
