APA – Kigali (Rwanda) – The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has initiated investigations into alleged cases of sexual misconduct at the ongoing Tour du Rwanda international cycling competition with systemic exploitation of tour hostesses, a police source confirmed Thursday in Kigali.
The Spokesperson of RIB, Dr Thierry Murangira said that the alleged cases of sexual misconduct in Tour du Rwanda are being investigated in order to assign the appropriate resolution.
Every year, hundreds of dedicated cyclists from across the globe take to the road for the annual Tourdu Rwanda, racing through hillside roads and valleys across the country while excited spectators cheer them on.
In most cases, private companies advertising their respective brands have to hire young women who have to join the peloton to promote some of the products along the competition.
Earlier this week, local media in Rwanda reported a growing number of cases involving managers of companies conditioning hiring tour hostess in exchange for sexual favors, known as quid-pro-quo sexual harassment, at Tour du Rwanda.
“The case is currently being investigated,” Dr Murangira said of the alleged sextorsion in the cycling competition.
