Several districts of the Senegalese capital Dakar were suddenly cut off from the electricity supply in the middle of the day, with disturbances reported for several hours.
Other parts of the country also experienced blackouts.
In response to the power outages in Dakar and certain regions, the national electricity company (SENELEC) said that the incident was caused by a problem that occurred this morning at the Hann substation, resulting in the loss of the Senegal River Basin Development Authority (OMVS) interconnection network and disruptions to the distribution of electricity.
SENELEC apologised for the inconvenience caused and said that ‘in accordance with the service recovery plan, teams are on the ground to manage this incident effectively and restore power to affected customers as quickly as possible’.
