The Togolese government has confirmed the presence of Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba in Togo.
There was much talk about the fate of the former president of the transitional government of Burkina Faso who was forced to resign by a group of young junior officers.
Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who is the new strongman of the country, did not wish to express himself on the subject, only saying in an interview with RFI that Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba is safe.
According to Agence France Presse, the former president of the transition has taken refuge in Togo.
The agency quotes the Togolese Minister in charge of communication Akodah Ayewouadan.
“Togo, like ECOWAS, welcomes the fact that the spirit of peace has prevailed” in Burkina Faso, the minister said, adding that the reception in Lomé of “Mr. Damiba is part of this spirit.”
Several sources told APA that the stay in Togo of Roch Kaboré’s successor will be brief.
“He plans to settle permanently in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Arrangements are underway for this purpose. His stay in Lomé will be short,” a political analyst close to the Patriotic Movement for Safeguard and Restoration (MPSR) told APA.
The day after his ouster by Captain Ibrahim Traore, Lieutenant Colonel Damiba accused the new leader of being guided by “individualistic motivations.”
