At the Doha Forum, Senegal’s Minister for African Integration, Yassine Fall, highlighted the global challenges facing Africa and reaffirmed the continent’s need for a legitimate place on the international stage, while calling for global support for democratic efforts and debt management.
Accompanying President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Senegal’s Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Yassine Fall spoke at the Doha Forum, which opened on Saturday, December 7, stressing the importance of strengthening African institutions and securing a better place for the continent on the world stage.
“We live in a highly fragmented world, facing enormous challenges, whether in terms of security, economics or social justice,” she stated, before highlighting the expectations of young Africans.
“Young people demand not only economic justice and the fight against poverty, but also that Africa take its place on the world stage. They are also asking for sovereignty,” the Senegalese head of diplomacy added.
The minister then turned to the issue of debt, pointing out that “Senegal has told the world the truth: the country’s debt is much higher than we were told.”
She called for international support for African countries, particularly in debt management and support for democratic efforts. “We must support countries like Senegal, which is embarking on a democratic and transparent process,” she pleaded.
Ms. Fall also welcomed the African Union’s entry into the G20 as an important step for Africa, but called for concrete measures to support the continent’s development.
“Support must be linked to a clear vision and development agenda,” she stressed, adding that Senegal intends to work with investors to ensure that the country’s resources benefit both its citizens and its international partners.
The statement comes as Senegal continues its efforts to strengthen democracy and stability at the national and regional levels.
