At least 40 civilians were killed at knifepoint last night in the Ituri eastern province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The carnage in a camp for displaced persons near Bule, in the eastern territory of Djugu, was repeated last night, when at least 40 civilians were reportedly stabbed to death. The deadly incursion is believed to be the work of Codeco militias, according to the Kivu Security Barometer (KST), which published the information on the social network Twitter.
The eastern DRC has been plagued for several years by conflicts between the regular army and militia fighting for control of the region’s abundant natural resources.
