The skirmishes took place in Kilwit, a stronghold of Martin Fayulu, during a crackdown that followed a dispute of the results giving Felix Tshisekedi victory in last month’s presidential election.
Local police in Kilwit, a town in western DRC, confirmed the deaths, claiming that the victims lost their lives after a security operation.
Opposition contender Felix Tshisekedi won the presidential election with 38.57 percent of the votes, ahead of Martin Fayulu (34.8 percent) and Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary (23.8 percent), according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).
The other 18 candidates have marginal scores.
Final results are expected to be announced by January 15.
Fayulu has dismissed the results as an electoral circus.
“These results have nothing to do with the truth of the ballot box,” Fayulu claimed, calling for a recount of the votes province by province.
The Catholic Church in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) also challenged the results published by CENI.
It deployed the largest electoral observation mission during the December 30 election with more than 40,000 observers.
The Church of Christ in Congo (ECC) claimed more than 10,000 observers during the same period and for the same electoral exercise.
