A high-level Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) delegation, led by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa, is set to visit the Moroccan port of Tangiers Med, an emblematic infrastructure of modernity and logistical efficiency in Africa.
Suminwa is on an official visit to Morocco that commenced on Sunday and whose highlights include her participation in the 16th edition of the MEDays Forum in Tangier and a series of bilateral talks aimed at consolidating relations between the two nations.
The visit, scheduled to end on November 29, is part of efforts to strengthen economic, diplomatic and cultural ties that unite Rabat and Kinshasa.
The highlight of this visit is the participation of the Congolese Prime Minister in the opening of the MEDays Forum, organised under the theme “Sovereignties and resilience: towards a new global balance.”
Suminwa is expected to deliver a speech on investment opportunities in the DRC to an audience of political leaders, economic experts and private sector representatives from around the world.
The event illustrates the desire of both countries to play a central role in promoting South-South cooperation, while highlighting the economic potential of the DRC, particularly in the mining, agricultural and energy sectors.
Suminwa’s visit comes in a context of increased rapprochement between Rabat and Kinshasa, marked by rapidly expanding economic cooperation.
Morocco, often seen as a model of development on the continent, is positioning itself as a strategic partner for the DRC.
Moroccan investments in Africa, particularly through companies such as OCP Group or BMCE Bank of Africa, offer interesting prospects for supporting the DRC’s ambitions for modernisation and industrialisation.
This collaboration also extends to trade. In 2023, the two countries signed several agreements aimed at boosting trade flows, with a particular focus on the agriculture, infrastructure and information technology sectors.
The Prime Minister’s visit aims to deepen these commitments through bilateral meetings with her Moroccan counterpart, as well as sectoral discussions between Congolese and Moroccan ministers.
In addition to the economic issues, this visit has a strong symbolic dimension. It underlines the convergence of visions between Morocco and the DRC regarding Africa’s development.
The two countries are committed to promoting peace, stability and regional integration in
Africa, while strengthening their cooperation in international bodies.
On the cultural level, Suminwa is expected to meet with representatives of the Congolese diaspora residing in Morocco, thus strengthening the human and historical ties between the two nations.
These exchanges reflect the importance of the Diaspora as a bridge between cultures, but also as a key player in the economic development of the two countries.
