The course, held in Bukavu, covered various aspects of IEDs, including their types, composition, detonation systems, and operational methods. The participants learned how to assess the risk of IEDs and conduct search and detection operations.
Edouard Yilmaz, head of training at UNMAS, expressed satisfaction with the soldiers’ progress, stating that they had acquired the necessary technical knowledge to effectively respond to IED threats and prevent terrorist networks from introducing explosives into urban areas.
General Jean-Jacques Ilunga, deputy commander of the 33rd Military Region, commended MONUSCO’s initiative, noting that the training aligned with the United Nations Security Council’s mandate to support the DRC in countering IEDs.
Marina Talini, representing the Head of MONUSCO’s Liaison Office in Bukavu, emphasized the importance of these courses in strengthening the capacity of the Congolese security forces and reducing the logistical capabilities of armed groups. She reminded the trainees of the crucial role they play in restoring peace and stability in the affected regions.
