The head of Ivorian diplomacy, Kandia Camara, handed over the gift to the Turkish ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire in Abidjan.
This donation, estimated at 1 million US dollars, comes after the President of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, sent a message of compassion to his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan, whose country was hit on February 6, 2023 by an earthquake.
It was handed over this Monday, March 13, 2023, in Abidjan, by Mrs. Kandia Camara, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Diaspora, in an “impulse of active solidarity” to the Turkish ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire, Deniz Erdogan Barmir, for the benefit of the Turkish people.
Kandia Camara said that Cote d’Ivoire has always enjoyed the support of Turkey and its president, “so it is natural” that the Ivorian state is “in solidarity” with the Turkish people and its president, Tayyip Erdogan.
“We know that Turkey is a great country, we know that the Turkish people are a resilient, courageous people and we have no doubt that Turkey will rise from this difficult period and continue always in greatness, to evolve towards an even better future,” she said.
The Turkish ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire, Deniz Erdogan Barmir, expressed his country’s gratitude to the Ivorian government for this gesture of solidarity, before adding: “We are very touched (and this is) the manifestation of our excellent relationship.
“We are going through very difficult times. But the Turkish people will overcome these difficulties. It is reassuring to know that Cote d’Ivoire, a friendly and brotherly country, is always with us, in these difficult days and in our pain,” she continued.
According to the latest official figures, the earthquake in Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023, has passed the 50,000-mark in terms of deaths and injuries.
