Turkey and Egypt announced this Tuesday, July 4, 2023, that diplomatic relations between the two countries have been upgraded to embassy level.
Thus, Ankara has appointed Salih Mutlu Sen as its new ambassador to Egypt, while Cairo has appointed Amr El Hamamy as its ambassador to Turkey, according to a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
“The elevation of diplomatic relations between the two countries has been implemented in accordance with the decision taken by the presidents of the two countries,” the statement reads.
“This step aims to normalize relations between the two countries and reflects the mutual will to develop bilateral relations in accordance with the interests of the Turkish and Egyptian peoples,” it adds.
As a reminder, diplomatic relations between the two countries had been at chargé d’affaires level since 2013.
