Egypt’s President, Abdel Fattah has won the 2020 edition of the Babacar N’Diaye Great Builder Super Prize, at the end of an annual meeting of the Selection Committee of African Road Builders, held on June 26, 2020 in Nairobi, Kenya, the General Commissioner of the event announced on Monday.
At the end of the deliberations, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, was unanimously voted to win the African Road Builders Super Prize – Babacar Ndiaye Trophy 2020.
The Egyptian President was selected for his personal leadership and for the completion of several works that contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the populations. The committee welcomed the Heliopolis metro station project in Cairo 2.
The Selection Committee also welcomed the Nile suspension bridge project in Cairo, as well as the Damietta port extension project and the rehabilitation of the Tanta- Mansourah – Damietta railway line.
All these projects, completed or in the process of being finalised, have had a positive impact on several million people, facilitating the mobility of goods and people and creating tangible business and employment opportunities.
The Babacar N’Diaye Trophy is expected to be presented on August 25, 2020 in Abidjan during the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group during the Final Conference with the AfDB President, Akinwumi Adesina, as the sponsor of the event.
The award aims to encourage all African states to improve the quality of roads and transport, and also the quality of life of people on the African continent.
