MEC Chairperson Jane Ansah said in the capital Lilongwe on Wednesday during the rollout of the 2019 official electioneering that political parties should be given the opportunity to campaign freely without any recourse to hate speech which leads to violence.
“Parties should hold their campaigns in a peaceful manner without any violence. All perpetrators of political violence will be arrested. What we want is peaceful, free and fair elections in our country,” she said.
She said her commission will monitor all campaign meetings which will be conducted across the country by political parties.
The official duration for the campaign is 60days after which Malawi will hold tripartite elections on May 21, 2019.
