Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku issued a statement on Saturday calling Thulani Mkhonto to report to his offices on Monday to answer on what human rights organisation condemned and described as an irresponsible statement.
Mkhonto’s Facebook post reads: “Life is like being raped, if you can’t fight it, just enjoy it!”
When the local dailies called him about it before publishing on Friday, he said, “To all Facebook users and eSwatini nation I would like to apologize for my recent post. I have realised it sounds insensitive and inhumane.”
The DPM said the statement was painting a bad picture of the country internationally, made at the time when the world was celebrating women.
The chairman of Men Engage Network, Andrew Moyo said, “For someone to relay such a statement in a very sarcastic manner is undermining survivors of rape and also portrays them as worthless.”
