Director of the National Association of Persons with Visual Impairment in eSwatini (NAPVIE) Mandla Methula described this as a major achievement to celebrate during the upcoming commemoration of the introduction of Braille some 50 years ago.
Speaking on the issue on Thursday he said: “We will also be celebrating the government’s move to introduce inclusive education, which has seen Braille being introduced as a subject in some public schools including Equinisweni and Mbasheni
primary schools”.
The organisation also acknowledged the Roman Catholic Church for initiating the Braille programme in 1968 under the leadership of late Father Angelo Ciccone.
“We also thank the American Embassy for providing computers as well as libraries which allowed the visually impaired to convert any printed document into Braille,” he said.
