Ethio-Telecom has accused Safaricom Ethiopia of sabotage after telecommunication services in Semera city of the Afar region in eastern Ethiopia were interrupted for hours on end.
Safaricom Ethiopia is the first Kenyan based telecommunication company that was registered in Ethiopia in July 2021 to provide full telecommunication services in the east African nation.
The service in the city has been interrupted for 12 hours on Sunday, December 11, 2022.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ethio-Telecom stated that the interruption was occurred due to the activities of Safaricom Ethiopia.
The construction project, it said, caused extensive damages to the state run Ethio-Telecom networks in the region and an international communication line passing through Djibouti.
”The service has been restored after the collaborative efforts of our field workers,” Ethio-Telecom said.
The telecom giant also said it will take legal actions against those responsible for both the damages on the infrastructure and losses incurred due to the service interruption.
Safaricom Telecommunication plc has not responded to the accusations.
