Ethiopia has been elected as a member of the governing Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The election into the 36-member council took place at the end of the ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada.
Ethiopia has received one of the highest votes to join the ICAO Council, Ethiopian ambassador to Canada Fitsum Arega tweeted on Wednesday.
The east African nation has secured 154 votes out of the 175 votes, the fourth highest, under part 3 election.
ICAO classifies the three different stages of voting as below, which is based on the scope of Civil Aviation stake holding or contribution to the development of it.
The election passed through three stages involving election of States of chief and election of States not already elected in stage 1 but which make the largest contribution to the provision of facilities for international civil air navigation.
Stage three is the election of States not elected in either the first or the second part, & whether or not they were candidates in either of those parts, & whose designation will ensure that all the major geographical areas of the world are represented on the Council.
ICAO released the results of the first two parts of the 36-member Council voting process earlier on Saturday.
