The opening of the Oumajir-Humera border is the continuation of the normalizing of Ethiopia-Eritrea relations, boosting people-to-people relations, and facilitating cross-border trade between the nations, a statement from the office of Ethiopia’s Prime Minister said.
It would be recalled that PM Ahmed and President Afeworki signed a peace accord in July 2018, restoring diplomatic and trade relations between the two countries.
Following their agreements, the two nations restored flight links, reopened their embassies, allowed direct telephone calls and opened borders for trade and movement of their people between them.
The opening of the road came after the reported visit of Prime Minister Ahmed to the Eritrean town of Tessene, accompanied by the chief administrators of the Amhara and Tigray Regional States, where he was received by President Afeworki.
The opening of the Oumajir-Humera border came after the Zalambessa border was partly closed due to security problems.
