Ethiopia has officially launched a national wheat export program to neighbouring Djibouti and Kenya.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Sunday presided over the national wheat export launch program in Bale Zone, Oromia region of the country.
The east African nation had announced plans to halt import of wheat and begin to export its own wheat this year as part of its Ten-Year Development Plan (2021-2030) through implantation of sustained and quality agriculture programs.
“We have fulfilled what we promised our people and today we have made Ethiopia’s wheat export dream a reality,” Ahmed said during the launching ceremony.
It is a testimony that we dream big, say what we dream, do what we say, working day and night, and show what we have done after completion ,” the Prime Minister added.
The Ethiopian lowlands have recently been given increasing due attention by the government of Ethiopia like enough supplies of improved seed, fertilizer , and use of mechanization on the clustered wheat farms to produce high quality wheat production.
