The number of people in need of humanitarian aid in Ethiopia stands at 7.3 million this year, showing an over one million drop compared to the past year, reports said on Friday.
The number of people needing help due to the impacts of the climate change-induced droughts and conflicts was 8.5 million last year.
However, it has now reduced to 7.3 million, said Haidas Hussien, Logistics Operation Director at the National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) of Ethiopia in a briefing on Friday.
According to him, good harvest season, assistance provided by the people and provision of loan services were the key reasons for the decrease in number of needy people.
He said the government will continue to provide assistance to the remaining 7.3 million people
In spite of better harvest this year, Ethiopia still faces high number of people needing emergency food and non-food assistance, the Commission added.
The nation requires more than $1billion for emergency relief supply for the current year, he said.
