Police in southern regional state have seized 6,150 kilograms of cannabis drug that was being smuggled to Kenya, local authorities disclosed on Tuesday.
In a Facebook post, Southern regional state police commission, said 6,150 kilograms of cannabis drug which was hidden inside the trunk of a cargo truck was seized in Weyeto rural city, Southern Omo zone of the region on Monday afternoon. The illicit drug haul was seized by the efforts of Southern region special forces personnel.
The statement said police has verified the illicit cannabis cargo originated from Shashamane city, located around 250 kilometers southeast of Addis Ababa.
Police have arrested the cargo truck driver and his assistant for further investigation, the statement further said.
In April, Police in the Oromia region seized 200 kilograms of illegal drugs in a sting operation in Shashamane city.
