APA-Addis Ababa Ethiopian Airlines has inaugurated its direct passenger flight between Abidjan and New York City of the United States.
The flight was launched on Tuesday at Abidjan Airport in the presence of Lemma Yedecha, Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Commercial Officer and other dignitaries, the airlines said on Tuesday in a statement.
The route also allows airlines to serve New York from its main hub Addis Ababa via Abidjan four times weekly.
Ethiopian first started serving New York from its main hub Addis Ababa via Abidjan in June 2019. However, the route was suspended in March 2020 due to Covid-19. Later, the flight resumed serving New York via Lomé starting in October 2020.
Ethiopian officials revealed the plan to restart flights between Abidjan and New York John F. Kennedy Airport on February 23, 2023.
“The resumption of our Abidjan-New York flight brings back the flexibility that our passengers love,” Ethiopian airlines group CEO Mesfin Tasew said.
Ethiopian has recently been expanding its international flight services.
It has added the US city of Atlanta, Pakistan’s Karachi and Denmark’s capital Copenhagen to its flight network in the month of May alone.
Currently, Ethiopian Airlines is serving more than 145 domestic and international passenger and cargo destinations.
