Ethiopian Airlines has launched its flight to Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown as the national carrier continues to expand its African flight network.
The airlines launched thrice weekly services to Freetown via Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on Friday in a ceremony held at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
The airliner operates the passenger service using Boeing 787 aircraft.
The new flight launch is part of the airline’s ongoing effort to expand its African flight network that exceeds 60 destinations in the continent.
“We are delighted to expand our West Africa network with the addition of Freetown,” Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said while announcing the flight earlier in May.
The CEO expects the new route to play a role in enhancing the economic ties of the east and west African countries.
It “will not only provide our passengers with more options for travel, but also facilitate increased tourism, trade and investment opportunities among Ethiopia, Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso,” Tasew added.
Freetown – a major port city on the Atlantic west coast of Africa, is also the largest city in Sierra Leone.
The new flight service enables travelers from Freetown to connect to the Ethiopian global network involving more than 135 destinations across five continents.
