The Ethiopian army is bearing down on remnants of the outlawed Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) who suffered heavy losses after recent fighting, a senior military officer has claimed.
The Head of the South Command Major General Solomon Itafa told local media Thursday that several members of the rebel force have been killed in airstrikes while trying to escape along the Amhara and Afar border.
According to the Major General, the escaping rebels force continue beheading the dead bodies of some of their members and recently decapitated bodies of a female and four males.
Unlike the past, remnants of the rebel force have been cornered and faced untenable situations where they can no longer exist as combatants, he added.
One of the prominent Ethiopian army generals Tuesday said the army had killed an unspecified number of guards of the fugitive leaders of the TPLF and captured many others in an offensive conducted last week, a senior military officer has said.
Lieutenant General Bacha Debele said the army carried out the offensive in eight fronts and used all war technologies and ammunition the nation could have to inflict heavy damage against the TPLF force.
