The Ethiopian National Defense Force along with the Amhara Special Force, Amhara Popular Force (Fano) has taken control of the most strategic Gashena town, Arbit and several other key areas, APA can report on Wednesday.
The army under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has registered a great victory during the last days since federal troops started a military offensive on all fronts, Government Communications Service Minister, Legesse Tulu, said on Wednesday in a press briefing.
The joint forces have managed to fully destroy concrete fortresses of the enemy built with resources it looted from the community with minimum sacrifices.
According to the minister, the capture of the strategic town of Gashena would help the army to flush out rebel forces from Lalibella, Woldiya and surrounding areas within a short time.
He added that the joint forces have captured heavy artillery, and many personal weapons from the enemy.
The rebels have lost all outlets to escape or transport their loots from the areas they had invaded, he said.
On the other hand, in Were Illu front, Jamma Dogolo, Wore Illu, Genete, Finchoftu and Akasta towns have been liberated from enemy forces, he claimed.
Moreover, in Shewa front, the joint forces of the federal army, Amhara Special Forces, and Fano have captured Mezezo, Molale, Shewarobit towns and surroundings after driving out TPLF forces.
Last Monday, the government announced Kasagita, Burqa, Waiima, Chifra, Chiftu, Dire Ruqa, Alele Sulula towns have already been liberated from TPLF fighters.
