Ulfata Deresa Geleta of Ethiopia on Saturday in Lagos, Nigeria won this year’s Access Bank 42km Lagos City Marathon race in 2 hours 11 minutes and 54 seconds.
After the race, Geleta was presented with a cheque for $30,000 as the prize for winning the 42km race, while the first runner-up from Kenya, David Barmasai, who finished race in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 33 seconds, received a cheque for $20,000.
The 1st Runner up, David Barmasai, who finished the race in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 33 seconds was presented a cheque for $20,000, while Naibe Emmanuel of Kenya, who came third in 2.14.42 and received a cheque for $15,000.
In the female category, Ethiopian Dagne Siranesh Yirga, who won the race in 2 hours 33 minutes 50 seconds was presented with a cheque for $30,000, while the duo of Alemenesh Herehaguta and Naomi Maiyo of Kenya, who won first and second runners-up were presented with cheques for $20,000 and $15,000 respectively.
According to the organisers, about 300 athletes featured in the 2022 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which kicked off at the entrance of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos at about 6am local time.
The marathon is the seventh in the series organised by Access Bank in Lagos.
