APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) The Ethiopian parliament on Thursday endorsed the appointment of Ethiopia’s Former Ambassador to the UN Taye Atske-Selassie as a new foreign minister.
The latest mini-reshuffle saw the appointment of three executives to ministerial posts.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s nominations for Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and Health Minister have been officially accepted by the parliament.
Dr. Mekdes Dhaba has been appointed to serve as Health Minister, replacing the outgoing Dr Lia Tadesse.
Ambassador Atske-Selassie was also promoted to foreign minister after serving as political policy advisor to the Prime Minister for over a year.
The new vice president of the ruling Prosperity Party, Temesgen Tiruneh, also assumed the deputy prime minister position.
Both Atske-Selassie’s and Tiruneh’s posts were previously held jointly by the outgoing Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen.
Mekonnen had already bid farewell when he resigned as vice president of the ruling Prosperity Party.
